LUDLOW

Church Stretton 15 miles; Shrewsbury 28 miles.

The historic market town of Ludlow is situated on the River Teme, amongst the outstanding countryside of the Welsh Marches. With nearly 500 listed buildings, Ludlow's medieval street pattern remains almost intact, and provides a fascinating backdrop for the town's regular street markets, held in the shadow of the castle and showcasing a range of goods; from cheeses and fresh produce to books and local crafts. Ludlow is renowned for its shopping, with a number of antique, art and craft shops, and has more Michelin-starred restaurants than anywhere outside of London, as well as numerous tea-shops, pubs and inns. The castle is over 900 years old, and contains fascinating examples of architecture while below it, the Linney Riverside Park offers boats for hire, a putting green and children's play area. Within easy reach of Church Stretton, Shrewsbury and Hereford, as well as popular attractions such as Ironbridge Gorge, Severn Valley Railway, Berrington Hall and Cardingmill Valley, Ludlow is a superb destination for a relaxing break.

Previous Visitors' Comments
As always in Shropshire, people were quite helpful and friendly -- one of the reasons I enjoy going up there so much. Owner was always helpful, but never intrusive. Everything was as we expected (something I've found Sykes Cottages to be quite good at accomplishing). I did very much appreciate the way the owners had laid out the grounds around the cottage and it was a treat to be able to simply walk outside and enjoy the sheep, cattle, and chickens at any time.

My family and I had a lovely short break using the above cottage as a base. Planning, booking, arrival, our stay and departure all worked out without a hitch and we look forward to using Sykes Cottages for many years to come. Thank you.

The area was interesting, the cottage was very clean and cool. It had a separate single room for our son and an enclosed patio so he could run outside and we didn't have to worry about him. A very child friendly place in that respect.

The cottage very warm, the people very generous with the heating. Garden good for children and dogs.
